Picture Day

As you could see from the recent photos I had opportunity to get up to our Emmaus Hill School.  I wanted to get the full details and photos of each and every one of our students for record keeping purposes and possibly for seeking out sponsorship assistance in the near future.  Getting the details for nearly 100 students was a tall order, especially from the youngest of the children.  ”Shadrach, mama anaitwa nani?”  (What’s your mother’s name?)  ”…ummmm Mama Shadrach” (another way of saying, I dunno, her name’s mama of course).  ”Okay, now stand here while I take your photo.  Don’t chew on your clothes.  Put your hands down.  Look at the camera.  Try to smile.  Don’t be afraid of the white person.”  Some of them didn’t crack a smile until I turned the camera around and revealed the picture just taken.  They’d either start grinning from ear to ear, look at it in disbelief, or laugh and run away.  It pretty much proceeded like that for the afternoon.
