Michael Norman Gurath Mdogo
16 July
After an Alka Seltzer Cold induced mini-coma throughout the night, we set off at around 10 in the morning only to be met with a problem along the road once again. This time the muffler caught on a stone in the road and ripped clean off of the vehicle. Some kind passersby (one of which was actually a mechanic) stopped to help with the repair, which involved ripping the rest of it off and tying the loose exhaust pipe to the undercarriage of the vehicle. We reached the school no later than two hours past our scheduled time, which is not an unusual occurrence. We concluded our time of seminars with them and even had opportunity to see the youngsters (pre-school) do some clay modeling. Pictures of each of the classes in their respective classrooms was taken along with a group photo of the teachers. As we were leaving I got a chance to see little Michael Norman Gurath walking down the road with his mama and little brother. Just before the rains hit, Eric, Sherm, and I headed to the Choma Zone in Moi’s Bridge for Sherm’s very first taste of goat meat. “Good stuff, Maynard!” as my father would say. After that we met up with Marie in Kitale who was picking up a cake for their graduation from computer training courses which takes place tomorrow. Kitale is a nice little town where one can spot a Mzungu or two or three. This evening we are preparing for the Pastoral Conference taking place down at the Soy Safari Resort in the sleepy little town of Soy. They should be arriving this evening. Anna’s Scripture today is Isaiah 40:31 “Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.”
