Road Warriors
4 July
Happy Independence Day! We departed from Jemima’s early in the morning and bid farewell to our favorite Nairobi hostess. Abdellah in full regalia took us to the bus stage in the heart of Nairobi captivating us with tales of Kenya’s corruption from politics to police. We drove through a back alley to avoid parts of the traffic jam and ended up going through a river of raw human sewage after the watchman claimed that there was certainly no trouble down that way. Abdellah claimed that God would provide a way through the traffic jam and we got to talk about which God and His will and ways and how exactly one finds their way back to God. Sherm had a new experience with the mass of humanity in downtown Nairobi as we awaited the departure of our bus and onlookers examined us and our “luggages.” Everyone seems to be obeying the speed limit nowadays for some reason, which is odd and caused the trip to be extended by an hour and a half, but it was appreciated for safety’s sake. We arrived at the Kisii bus stage some 8 or 9 hours later and saw all the hustle and bustle of a political rally which was taking place here. We kept our heads low and scurried off the bus with our bags up the 5 flights of stairs to our familiar room at the Jazz hotel. Good ol’ Sylvester welcomed us and mildly scolded me for being away for so long. It’s nice to be missed I guess. We are quite bushed from the day and don’t feel like wading through town to get some food so it’s just water from the filter bag and snacks such as beef jerky, Clif bars and the like. Tomorrow we will be doing photocopies for the coming week of seminary and teacher conferences as well as pricing Christmas gifts for the Etago School. Enjoy the brats and burgers and blowing stuff up for the 4th everyone! Bible passage for the day (from Anna’s hand-picked Bible readings) Psalm 16:8 “I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
